The Education Law Center and Good Schools PA: Keep school improvements in place
Pennsylvania made historic progress in 2008 when the state approved a new school funding formula and accountability system that begin to address the inequities experienced by students and communities. What should not get lost in the current budget debate is the importance of those reforms. The following videos are a reminder to maintain and promote those key school improvements.
As part of the advocacy effort to make the funding formula a reality, the Education Law Center and Good Schools Pennsylvania created “Student Voices,” a brief video showcasing students discussing the importance of adequate funding for the state’s schools in 2008.
Since the groundbreaking enactment of a fair funding and accountability system, the two organizations have continued their collaboration and worked to ensure that local schools are effectively investing the new resources.
On June 2, 2009, the Education Law Center and Good Schools Pennsylvania brought together, for the first time, dozens of community-based education leaders from throughout the state to create a foundation for students, parents, educators, and grassroots organizations to work more closely in 2009-10 developing improved opportunities to learn for all children.
Viewed together these videos provide a portrait of those children most impacted by a lack of opportunities to learn, as well as a portrait of the advocates working to improve those opportunities.
